What we build
From the foundation up or one room at a time — if it's part of your home, Bartel Construction can take it on. And when a job calls for a specialty trade, Isaac brings in the best people for it.
Ground-up builds done right for island conditions — from site work and framing to the final walkthrough.
Open up a floor plan, add a room, or bring an older island home up to date — without losing its character.
The rooms you use every day, rebuilt to work the way you do — cabinets, counters, tile, plumbing, and finish work.
Decks, porches, and outdoor spaces built to soak up island views — and to stand up to Pacific Northwest weather.
The small stuff matters too. Honest fixes and punch-list work from a crew that treats every house like it's on their own street.
Ductless heat pumps and HVAC handled in-house through Isaac's sister company, AP Mechanical — same standards, same island crew.
Why Bartel
On an island, your reputation walks into the grocery store with you. Isaac builds like it — showing up when he says he will, keeping you in the loop, and standing behind the work long after the tools are packed up.

Island-grown
Bartel Construction isn't a mainland outfit that takes the ferry over for the big jobs. It's an island company, through and through — run by Isaac Bartel, built on South Whidbey, and grounded in the community it serves.
That means work that respects how island homes actually live: the salt air, the winter storms, the beloved old cabins and the brand-new builds alike. It means suppliers, inspectors, and tradespeople who already know Isaac by name. And it means a builder who'll still be here — down the road, at the farmers market, on the ferry line — long after the job is finished.
Isaac also owns AP Mechanical, Whidbey's local ductless heat pump and HVAC company — so heating and cooling are part of the family, not a subcontract to a stranger.
Welcome to Whidbey
Just bought a place here? Thinking about it? Island life is wonderful — and a little different. Homes here have their own quirks, their own weather, and their own rhythm of who-does-what.
Isaac has spent his life on Whidbey, and he's happy to be your first call: to look over the house you're buying, tackle the fix-it list that came with it, or simply point you toward the right people for anything the island throws at you. No pressure, no runaround — just a neighbor who knows the place.
